Vijaya Mathangi Centre for Music Excellence is celebrating its First Anniversary by inviting Carnatic Music students and aspirants to participate in prestigious Thematic competitions:

Category Guidelines by Age Group

Sub-Juniors (6–11 years)

Focus: Thyagaraja Divyanama Sankeerthanas

  • Participants must submit a list of 5 Thyagaraja Divya Nama Sankeerthanas.

  • One will be the participant’s choice and one composition will be chosen by the judges.

Juniors – 12yrs – 17yrs

Focus: Adi Tala Varnas & Madhyama Kala or Desadi Tala Krithis.

  • Submit a list of:
    4 Adi Tala Varnas
    4 Madhyama Kala Krithis (from the Trinity’s compositions)

  • Judges will select one from each category.

Seniors – 18yrs – 29yrs

Focus: Ata Tala Varna, Manodharma for Vilamba Kala Krithis (Alapana, Nerval & Swara Kalpana)

  • Perform one Ata Tala Varna in two speeds (participant’s choice).

  • Perform Manodharma for one Krithi.

  • Submit a list of 4 Vilamba Kala Krithis (from the Trinity’s compositions) — judges will choose one.

Mridangam – Juniors

Focus: Aditala, Chaturasra Rupaka, Tisra Triputa

  • Will have to play a Tala on Judges choice for two minutes.

Mridangam – Seniors

Focus: Khandachapu, Misra Chapu, Vilamba Kala Aditala Tisra Nadai

  • Will have to play a Tala on Judges choice for Three minutes.

🥇 First Prize – Perform for 15 minutes

Juniors

🥉 Third Prize – 10 minutes

🥇 First Prize – 20 minutes

Seniors

🥉 Third Prize – 20 minutes
🥈 Second Prize – 40 minutes
🥇 First Prize – 60 minutes

Note:-

  • All the participants will receive participation certificates.
  • Winners outside India will receive E certificates and a platform to perform online concerts.
  • Winners within India will have to perform a live concert as per the time allotted at the place and venue which will be announced on the day of Competition.
  • The competition in each category will be conducted only if there are a minimum of six registered contestants.
  • In case a particular category is cancelled due to insufficient participation, the organizers reserve the right to cancel that category. In such cases, the registration amount for that specific category will be refunded.
  • Junior contestants who demonstrate proficiency may opt to compete in the Senior category.
  • Please note that the registration amount is otherwise non-refundable under any circumstances.
